A very similar marquise by Heurtaut, reputedly from the Gatchina Palace, St. Petersburg, is illustrated in G. Janneau, Le Mobilier Franais - Les Siges, Paris, 1973, no. 206.
This marquise formed part of the collection of the legendary screen actress Greta Garbo, whose film credits include such classics as The Temptress (1926), Anna Christie (1930), Grand Hotel (1932), Anna Karenina (1935) and Ninotchka (1939). The Heurtaut canap with its sinuous lines, comfortable and practical proportions and a shot of bright upholstery would appear to fulfills all of these criteria.
