The Log Cabin and Hard Cider Club of Portland was a local offshoot of a national political organization supporting the Presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison. In the midst of economic depression caused by the panic of 1837 and general voter discontent, the campaign avoided a platform of national issues and instead stressed Harrison's frontier background with songs, partisan slogans and even the wide distribution of miniature log cabins and jugs of hard cider. This may be a copy made from the original plate for members of the club. Another example is in the collection of the Maine Historical Society.
