Lot Essay

Webster's attire in this portrait bears a strong resemblance to the suit worn in a portrait attributed to Brady, Anthony or the Whitehurst studio (see: Facing the Light, cat. 78, p. 214 and cat. note 78, p. 354) now in the collection of the Chicago Historical Society.
