The heroic young man holding his bow in his lowered left hand, the victor's olive branch in his raised right hand, on a square naturalistic base signed E. Marioton, inscribed VAINQUEUR, with the foundry stamp of Decauville, Paris and numbered 5937, minor damages to the bow

Eugne Marioton (1857-1933), brother of Claudius Marioton, exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Franais from 1882 to 1922. He specialised in portrait medallions, allegorical figures and busts. The Siot-Decauville foundry has also edited several other bronzes of Marioton, like "Charmeur de serpent" and "Belluaire". (Pierre Kjellberg, Les Bronzes du XIXe Sicle, Paris, 1989, pp.458-460)
