Surmounted by a winged mermaid playing a horn, above the oval body, centred by an enamel dial inscribed Howell James & Co....The Queen London & Paris, the twin-train movement strilking on a bell, surrounded by shells and foliage, flanked to each side by a pierced scroll volute, on a square moulded base, centred by a scallop-shell and coral, flanked to each side by a winged hippocampus, on four feet, the reverse of the case stamped with the Kite Registration mark for February 1871
