Lot Essay

Carl Gottfried Traugott Faber was a member of the Dresden Academy and received his artistic training from Johann Christian Klengels (1751-1824). In the period between 1820 and 1830, the artist was influenced by Caspar David Friedrich, who was the most renowned Romantic landscape painter of his time. The present lot possibly corresponds with a picture by the artist titled Une Cascade and is mentioned in E. Benezit, Dictionnaire des peintres, sculpteurs, dessinateurs et graveurs, Paris 1976, IV, p. 235.

We kindly thank Prof. Dr. Hans Joachim Neidhardt for suggesting the authenticity of the present lot on the basis of a colour transparency.
