Lot Essay

The present work probably dates from the years 1909-12 and the subject is the marsh near Snargate, Kent. Dr Wendy Baron suggests a date of circa 1909 for another version which is in the collection of the Kirkcaldy Art Gallery (see W. Baron, The Camden Town Group, London, 1979, p.367). An oil sketch of this subject is in the collection of Hamilton Art Gallery, Ontario.
