A carved oak settle, English, 19th century
the three panel back with scrolling cresting centred with a mask flanked by wolf like creatures and with masks and wings to the sides, the central panel with inscription Do not trust, nor contend, nor lay wages, nor lend and you will have peace to your lifes end, enclosed by a hinging down arm-rest and with armorial below, the outswept arms with wolf like terminals and with part upholstered twin lidded box seat, with dragon carved front panels -- 66in. (169cm.) wide, 50in. (127cm.) high, 24in. (62cm.) deep
