the back and seat formed of bentwood slats attached to a square section upright, the front rail with scroll ends and raised on turned tapering legs joined by stretchers

Lot Essay

No comparative literature appears to be available for this extraordinary chair. A chair with a very similar bentwood slat arrangement has been recorded (though not published) by Dr. B. Cotton author of The English Regional Chair) in Ireland although that example had a more substantial seat and four legs.
