Tasso, Jerualem Delivered, 7:6 ff. This episode from the romantic epic poem of the first Crusade by Tasso tells how Erminia, daughter of a Saracen king, loved by the Christian knight Trancred and, believing him to be wounded, set of to search fo him. She was disguised in armour belonging to the female warrior Clorinda. She came upon an old shepherd sitting outside his hut playing a pipe, while nearby his sons were weaving baskets.
