The tile painter - a study

The present lot is a preliminary study for the figure on the left in the painting from 1884 in the Zeeuws Museum, Middelburg (see J.W. Brouwer, Anthon van Rappard, Amsterdam, 1974, p. 81, no. 93). A watercolour of the same subject as the painting from 1884 is in the Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
