An interesting sampler by Ann Bell 1806 worked in coloured wools and silks with the central verse "Honour thy Father", with the name Alex Denovan above, with alphabets and numerals at the top, flanked with various spot motifs including birds, a house and a castle at the bottom with a pair of large scale stylised trees to either side, within a stylised bud border--15 x 20in. (39 x 52cm.), possibly Scottish, some holes in the ground and damage; and a commemorative embroidered and appliqu panel, "In memory of our beloved Queen Victoria"--17 x 22in.
