Lot Essay

This chair is based on a design by John Loudon for 'easy reclining chairs for a library, parlour, or other sittingroom'. Loudon illustrated two chair designs, which he describes as 'covered with morocco leather, with button tufts', in his Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm, and Villa Architecture and Furniture, London, 1839, p. 1057
