The center with the arms of van Hardenbroek of Utrecht in vivid red and yellow enamel supported by finely pencilled grisaille lions within scrolling acanthus, the rim painted with squirrels, birds, floral sprigs and butterflies on a grisaille wanfret ground

Lot Essay

According to the master of the rolls in the province of Utrecht these arms probably refer to Jan Louis van Hardenbroek, born 1691, captain in the Navy and married to Johanna Charlotte van Renesse van Lockhorst in 1718.
