The ambiguity of the Chinese depiction of Bathsheba and the fountain before her led to this subject being known as 'Christ in the Temple' until the discovery of a 1669 Old Testament print source by P. Le Petit, Paris. See Hervouet et Bruneau, op. cit., p. 262.
