AN IRISH (BELLEEK POTTERY CO.) CRESTED GILT WHITE BITTERN COMPORT
Circa 1870, impressed and black printed marks
The basin of shell form with reticulated border, printed in puce and enriched in gilt with a crest of a lion rampant to left rising from a striped puce and gilt baton and holding a cross with crosses at the ends of the bars above the gilt monogram WB, the underside moulded as gadroons alternating with attenuated acanthus, the stem as three bitterns amongst bull rushes, the stepped rockery base with trailing vine and rising from foaming waves
