Lot Essay

This richly carved table displays a full range of idiosyncratic carved motifs peculiar to Irish Georgian furniture including the pierced basket, eagles' heads, and floral scrolls in low relief as well as stylized paw feet with swollen ankles. A closely related games table is illustrated in D. Fitzgerald, Irish Furniture, The Irish Heritage Series, no. 16, 1978, fig.18.
