Lot Essay

The design for these stools directly relates to a pattern for a 'Grecian footstool' published in R. Ackermann's Regency Furniture and Interiors of 1826, pl. 58. Ackermann praises this type of stool for its comfort and stability (see P. Agius, ed., Ackermann's Regency Furniture and Interiors, London, 1984, p.88).
