A GOLD-MOUNTED ENGLISH SCENT BOTTLE
Circa 1755, most probably the St. James's factory of Dr. Charles Gouyn
Modelled as a winged putto standing in contra posto beside a rose bush and smelling a rose, the concave underside of the base painted with a double-headed pink flower, the stopper inscribed in gilt on an enamel ribbon 'SA SENTEUR VA AU COEUR.'

Bernard Dragesco, English Ceramics in French Archives, 1993 for a discussion of the re-attribution of small scale porcelains traditionally ascribed to the 'Girl-in-a-Swing' factory to another firm operating on Bennet Street, St James's, London under the direction of a jeweller, Dr. Charles Gouyn. Formerly a "Proprietor and Chief Manager of the Chelsea House", Dr. Gouyn specialized in producing charming gold-mounted 'toys' such as the present example.
