2 (375 x 272mm). 60 lithographic plates, 57 hand-coloured, by Keulemans or J. Smit, coloured by Mr Smith, printed by M. & N. Hanhart, illustrations. (Some very occasional spotting to verso of plate leaves, but affecting one plate, Limonophalus Montani). Contemporary half morocco, top edge gilt (rehinged, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Herman Theodore Radin (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION. 'A comprehensive treatment of the entire family of hornbills' (Zimmer). The work was issued in ten parts between 1877 and 1882, with the preliminary and introductory leaves issued with Part X. It is Elliot's last major ornithological work.
