Maker's mark of Francis Pages, London, 1738
Shaped oval, on four monster and openwork rocaille cartouche feet with scrolling foliage and masks between, the sides pierced with scrolls, trefoils and circles and with openwork cast shell, flower festoon, grotesque mask and vacant cartouche border, with caryatid swing-handle chased with strapwork, the centre engraved flat chased with a band of shells, trellis work and scrolls and engraved later with Royal coat-of-arms, the reverse engraved with initials M, S, Ed beneath Royal coronets and initials EAFs, marked on base
