Lot Essay

The attribution was kindly confirmed by Sir Denis Mahon.
Similar landscapes are illustrated in D. Mahon and N. Turner, The Drawings of Guercino in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle, London, 1989, nos. 250-3, figs. 234-7. In the Windsor catalogue Mahon and Turner explained the difficulty in dating Guercino's landscapes, mainly because none relates to specific pictures and only two are dated to 1626 and 1635.
