Lot Essay
This elegant chandelier was possibly inspired by the oeuvre of the Mannheim Vergolder und Spiegel-Fabricant Peter Schmuckert (1765-1841). It relates to the 1819 design of a similar Lüster by Schmuckert, which is preserved in the Generallandesarchiv in Karlsruhe. Schmuckert managed a succesful company which produced a wide variety of furnishings and decorative objects. His trade label illustrates this diversity: 'Mirrors in mahogany, cherry and walnut; furniture, made of local and foreign timber..., ... with and without Tapezierarbeit; Alabaster; Bronzes, mantelclocks, chandeliers and wall-lights...; Glass;...; Porcelain.' (R. Stratmann-Döhler, 'Möbel für den Fürstenhof, Singmaringen, 1994, pp 36-37)
