Lot Essay

Pierre Roussel, matre in 1745.

A closely related commode of slightly bigger size and also stamped by Pierre Roussel, with conforming floral marquetry within ormolu scrolling ormolu frame, was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 14 March 1996, lot 71. The floral marquetry is also reminiscent to that found on a commode sold from the Estate of Dorothy Patterson Jackson at Christie's New York, 13 June 1987, lot 181.
