Lot Essay

The design of this mantel clock can be attributed to the workshop of Franois Vion and Pierre-Antoine Foullet, and having been executed around 1770. The design of a closely related endule au Lion is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Prschel,et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 193, ill. 3.11.6.
