A FLEMISH HISTORICAL TAPESTRY
Late 17th early 18th Century
Woven in wools and silks, depicting Darius being Freed from his Shackles from The History of Alexander, with Alexander and a further general standing before Darius being freed from his shackles by another, within a florally swagged border with nymphs and putti to the sides and cartouches to the top and bottom, within a later brown outer slip, painted patches to the top and bottom right hand side as well as to the centre of the main subject, the inner slip partially replaced and the subject reduced in width to the right, with sections retouched with paint
