Decorated overall with scrolling foliage and stylised leaves, the moulded rectangular top with blind fretwork panels above a domed cornice and glazed door flanked by columns and enclosing a circular dial with roman numerals and arabic chapters and a circular plate inscribed 'Joseph Davis London', within foliate spandrels centred by masks and sea-monsters above a door with raised japanning depicting a pagoda and a warrior on horseback and a central glazed panel enclosing pendulum weights and winder above a moulded plinth base with central raised landscape scene, the japanning distressed in some areas

Lot Essay
Joseph Henry Davis is recorded as an apprentice in 1734. A Lacquer long case clock by Davis of circa 1740, was bought by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1911, from L. Harris, of the Spanish Art Gallery.
