Two identical console tables are recorded. All four have lost some further small elements, presumably also of gilt-bronze, that were attached to the surface.
The other two tables of this model retain a form of framing above the existing top edge of the metal and below the marble tops. It has been suggested from the shape of this frame, and the overall profile of the tables themselves, that they were originally supplied with liners, possibly as large stoups for a church. The fact that at least four exist certainly suggests that they were supplied for a very large room, possibly in a public building.
