Lot Essay

Jean Huber, a rich citizen from Geneva, specialized in cut out silhouettes of landscapes, historical scenes and portraits. His cut out paper won him fame and he worked for most European courts. Among his more prestigious commissions were the Empress Catherine II of Russia, the Emperess Maria-Theresa of Austria, the Queen of Sweden, the King of Denmark and King George III. Those depicting Voltaire were most sought after.
