Each with beaded drip pan above a fluted urn with lion-masks and three female herms, with foliate swags, above a laurel wreath and a circular spreading acanthus-wrapped base with beaded edge

Lot Essay

These caryatid candlesticks are after a design by Jean-Dmosthne, Dugourc, Architecte et Dessinateur Du Cabinet de Monsieur Frre du Roi, Paris 1790, (illustrated P. Verlet Les Bronzes Dors Franais du XVIII sicle, p. 294, fig. 325).
A similar pair were sold anonymously in these Rooms, 14 May 1970, lot 70.
