A sampler by Lucy Dunning 1811 embroidered in coloured silks with the central verse "Lord give me neither poverty...", the upper half with alphabets and numerals in cross stitch and Algerian eye, with a band of flower filled vases, the lower half with spot motifs including crowns, baskets of flowers and a parrot, the lower border with two imbricated hillocks with stags on the top and a fashionable lady seated in between, with a three sided border of stylised flowers, strawberries and acorns--17.5/8 x 18in. (45 x 47cm.), framed and glazed, some fading and discolouration
