Lot Essay

General Sir George Sackville Browne K.C.B. was born in Ireland and admitted as a cadet in 1774. He was in the Native Infantry (India) in 1810, made Major General in 1813 and awarded the K.C.B. in 1815. Browne was made Lt. General in 1826 and died two years later in Brussels. His elder daughter married General Sir William Casement (1778-1844) great uncle of Sir Roger Casement the Irish nationalist.
