The finely carved translucent box and cover with an inscription on the cover and with four characters carved in relief on the bottom between two small square and rectangular apertures for corresponding projections on the interior, the white stone softly polished; together with another translucent white jade qin-shaped box and cover, carved on top with a qin reserved against a ground of archaistic scrolls and taotie masks, with two characters carved on the bottom; and a small white jade carving of a cat and a kitten lying atop a large fan

The inscriptions on the first box may be transliterated and translated as follows: dande qinzhong quhelao xuanshangyin (One does not have to pluck the strings of a qin to appreciate the music), with a two-character seal mark, Zhigang; the reverse is inscribed yangchun baixue which refers to a scholarly, lofty type of music.
