Lot Essay

Woong Kim was born in Ch'ungchongnam-do and graduated from Yale University in 1978. He had six one-person exhibitions at the Addison/Ripley Galley in Washington, D.C. between 1981 and 1997. In 1985 he had one-person exhibitions at the Park Ryu Sook Gallery, the Space Gallery, and the Hilton Art Gallery in Seoul. He had one-person exhibitions at the M-13 Gallery, New York in 1989, 1991 and 1995. His paintings were exhibited at the Sonje Museum of Contemporary Art in Kyongju in 1991 and in the "Interior Landscapes" at the Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington, in 1998. He had a one-person exhibition at the Ihn Gallery in Seoul in 1998. His paintings are in the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul and Yale University in New Haven and other museums. From 1979 to 1987 he taught painting at the School of Visual Arts, New York.
