Kim Tschangyeul was born in Seoul and studied in the Fine Arts Department of Seoul National University from 1948 to 1950. He also studied at the Art Students League of New York from 1966 to 1968. Between 1957 and 1993 he had numerous one-person and group exhibitions in Korea, Japan, the United States and Europe. He also exhibited at the 2nd Paris Biennale in 1961 and at the 8th Sao Paulo Biennale in 1965. During the years 1972 to 1976 his paintings were shown at the Salon de Mai in Paris. In 1976 and 1979 he had a one-person exhibition at the Modern Art Gallery in Seoul. His paintings were exhibited at the Tate Gallery in Liverpool in 1992. He had a one-person exhibition at the Enrico Navarra Gallery in Paris in 1993.
