This centerpiece is based on a porcelain example which formed part of a Svres porcelain service executed for Napoleon in 1810 to celebrate the greatest achievements of his reign. Vivant-Denon, the director of the Muse Napolon, supervised the conception and manufacture of this important service between 1807 and 1810.

This particular figure, entitled Le Gnie des Arts, designed by the sculptor Antonio Montoni in 1808, represents Napoleon symbolizing the Genius of the Arts riding in a chariot led by Victory and holding in hand the attributes of painting, sculpture and architecture

Susse Frres, listed at 31, Place de la Bourse between 1860 and 1876, specialized in the production of small furniture and objects.
