A LATE LOUIS XVI ORMOLU AND WHITE MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK
The dial signed Ridel Paris, circa 1790
The circular enamelled dial with Arabic chapter ring and seconds dial draped with a bow-knot-tied berried laurel swag within an urn-form case issuing a berried floral spray, the case flanked to each side by figures of Flora and Venus and Cupid, on a bowed rectangular base centered by a panel with frolicking Bacchic and Herculean putti, flanked to each side by polychrome-painted panels, on a black marble base and bulbous feet

Lot Essay

Other clocks of this model are in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Franaise, Paris, n.d., vol.II, cat. 36) and the chteau de Fontainebleau.
