The dial signed Lepaute a Paris, circa 1825
The circular enamel dial with Roman chapter ring signed Lepaute Paris within a rectangular foliate-mounted case supporting an urn and flanked by an allegory of Patience represented by a figure of feeding a lamb and with a hound at her feet, on a rectangular base mounted with putto suspending floral garlands and flower-filled baskets, on leaf-tip-cast feet

Lot Essay

Pierre-Bazile Lepaute (1750-1843), matre in 1766, and his son, Pierre-Michel Lepaute (1785-1849), both members of the well-known Parisian clockmaking Lepaute family and workshop, established the firm of "Lepaute & Fils" in 1811 employing the signature "Lepaute Paris" under the Empire and Restoration.
