With rectangular top above a satinwood-lined frieze drawer over a fall-front enclosing a central open compartment with a mirrored back, stencilled to represent a checker-inlaid stage and flaming tripods within an arched facade with columnar uprights and decorated with scrolls and masks, with seven various drawers, above a pair of doors, the tapering angles headed by female heads and decorated with husk trails, on rectangular stepped feet, the interior possibly originally with a further drawer

The intricate, classically-inspired penwork decoration on the upright angles and interior of this secretaire demonstrate the distinguishing Biedermeier preference for exploiting the natural substance of wood in furniture production.
