See pp. 130-131 for discussion on Solon's work. In the "Black Cat", the artist experimented with firing on opaque enamels. Also, to achieve the faint ornament on the wall behind the female figure, he partially applied acid which ate away the glaze and then rubbed color into the recesses of the area. Solon enhanced the panel by outlining the colorful decoration in gold or by accentuating the many details.
