Although it looked similar to its predecessor, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II as introduced in September 1959, was the beginning of an era for the famous Crewe company. Answering the demands for greater power, particularly in the face of ever bigger engined American rivals, Rolls-Royce had designed an all new light alloy 6230cc V8 for the Cloud. Compact, and no heavier than the six cylinder unit it replaced, it had a dramatic effect on the car's performance: top speed was up to 115mph having previously been a little over 100mph, accompanied by the kind of acceleration only a big-engined sportscar could equal, and all achieved with hardly any increase in fuel consumption.

First owned in Guernsey, this 1962 example has been in its present, private ownership since the late 1960's, during which time it has travelled extensively, including trips to the Continent. Serviced regularly at a local garage to the vendor, by a Rolls-Royce trained technician, the Cloud has an MOT until May. To be quite fair, the car is now showing its age and there are a number of areas on the bodywork requiring attention - we suggest that the sills need replacing. The paintwork has faded with traces of microblistering appearing. The interior leatherwork is original and now well used but not torn whilst the woodwork is acceptable. We did not test drive the car but it started from cold first time (there is an exhaust blow). Recently two new tyres and a new battery have been fitted. The Rolls-Royce has its handbook and V5.
