The hood with scrolling top and carved scrolling cresting to the front, stiff leaf cornices, arched fret panels to the sides, with dolphin mouldings to the lower angles of the hood door, the arched trunk door within a moulded frame, with foliate and scroll mouldings to the centre with conforming decoration to a recessed panel on the plinth, raised on carved bracket feet with a carved apron between, the arched gilt-brass dial overlaid with a pierced and engraved foliate trellis frame embracing the silvered chapter ring and subsidiary chime/silent and Whittington on 8 bells/Westminster on 4 gongs rings above, conforming trellis mount to the light green painted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, signed on the chapter ring JOHN SMITH & SONS ST JOHN'S SQUARE CLERKENWELL LONDON, blued steel hands, the substantial three train movement with brass securing screws to the underside of the seatboard, with anchor escapement and quarter chimes on four gongs or eight nested bells above, with hour strike on further gong
