Lot Essay

Norwich Museum (Strangers' Hall) have several panels of similar wool brocades which were found in Spain. They are thought to have been found there due to the export trade of Norwich worsteds from England to Spain in the 18th Century. In the early 19th Century, this export trade was worth almost one twelfth of the total value of English exports at the time.
