Embroidered in coloured silks with Biblical verses in Tamil, the lower third with a stylised spray of carnations, flanked by baskets of fruit, squirrels and other spot motifs, within a stylised sprig border, framed and glazed, some holing to ground

Probably worked by an English woman in India. With attached label on the back 'From Tinivalla Travancore. From the Collection of the Rev. Gerard Smith. Found at Robeaton Wathen in 1929.'
Compare : No 28, page 30, 'Samplers - A School Room Exercise', Witney Antiques 1994. The layout of the two examples appears to be very close, proably by the same hand. The borders seem to be identical.
