The elliptic-fronted chest is embellished with Egyptian reeding and ring-bearing lion-masks in the antique manner popularised by Thomas Sheraton's publications issued around 1800. The reeding and Pompeian columns above stump feet, feature for instance on his 'secretary' pattern published in The Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and General Artist's Encyclopaedia, 1804, pl. 2.
