Comprising six side chairs, a daybed and a bergere
Each side chair with a concave rectangular toprail above a flowerhead-centred arched horizontal splat with scrolled stiles, above a caned seat, on square tapering sabre legs decorated with flowers and foliage; the daybed with scrolled padded ends and side and squab covered in white calico, on scrolled tapering sabre legs, with castors inscribed in paint 'H. CLINKER' and 'R.T H.H.'; the bergere of tub form with caned back, sides and seat, on conforming sabre legs, with castors to the back legs

This seat furniture with its Grecian-scrolled form and painted decoration relates to the fashion adopted around 1830 by firms such as Gillows of London and Lancaster (see N. Goodison and J. Hardy, 'Gillows at Tatton Park', Furniture History, 1970, pp. 1-39, figs. 9A, 9B, 15B, 16A).
