The drawing-room sofa, with its serpentine head and voluted foot, derives from a pattern for a 'Grecian Couch Sofa Squab' issued in Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary, 1803 (pl. 49). A related sofa, with reed and patterae enriched frame, was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 21 February 1997, lot 183.
