Lot Essay

The table, with its Gothic-tablets and plinth-supported trestles framed by voluted trusses relates to patterns in T. King's The Cabinet-Maker's Sketch Book, 1835; while the trestles' Grecian-palms derive from an antique marble illustrated in C. H. Tatham's Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture drawn from the Originals in Rome and Other Parts of Italy during the years 1794, 1795 and 1796, 1799.
