The coffer Momoyama period (1573-1615)
The coffer decorated in gold hiramakie lacquer technique, on a black lacquer ground with mother-of-pearl inlay, with rectangular panels of pawlonias, morning glories, bell flowers, cherry blossom and maple, bordered by a band of stylised cherry blossom, the interior of the lid with morning glories and scrolling foliage, with copper kanagu fittings, the stand with conforming painted decoration to the apron, on square tapering club legs and square pad feet, the back feet tipped, later blocks to the stand, some old damage and rubbing to the lacquer
