The mirror is conceived in the George III antique manner, illustrated in R. and J. Adam's Work in Architecture, 1773-79. Its tablets display festive bacchic figures and Muses such as Josiah Wedgwood manufactured around 1770. This Adam fashion gained increasing populariy when Messrs. Wright and Mansfield's Wedgwood-enriched cabinet gained an award at the 1867 Paris Exhibition and was acquired for the Victoria and Albert Museum (R.W. Symonds and B.B. Whineray, Victorian Furniture, London, 1962, fig. 45.)
